Community Economic Development
The Technology and Economic Development Division provides assistance to communities to encourage growth and prosperity. TEEX helps communities better understand themselves and their manufacturing businesses. An example of this assistance is the half-cent sales tax survey, a survey of economic development corporations that assesses the benefits of the sales tax for economic development on those communities that had passed it as of May 1995.
Baseline conditions
A snapshot showing where a community stands economically through four distinct components: demographics; income statistics; industrial profile; and an audit of infrastructure, financial vitality and other characteristics.
Crossmatch
An objective analysis identifying a community's strengths and pairing them with the industries most likely to thrive in that area. The analysis also examines high-growth industries whose distinct needs and traits - location, infrastructure, workforce, raw materials - can be met by the community.
Workforce Analysis
An examination of how state educational institutions and workforce planning groups obtain pertinent economic development information to include in their strategic planning process.
Feasibility Studies
An examination of the pros and cons of a particular economic development endeavor based on a cost/benefit analysis that surveys the market forces surrounding the project, laying out facts from a variety of sources to provide a detailed portrait of the project and the likelihood of its success.
Strategic Planning
A a way of helping communities interact effectively with business and government to perfect markets and compete for resources, adjust organizational strategies in response to rapid changes in the environment, determine how best to deploy resources to reach goals, and provide a basis for economic strategy development.
Brownfields
Those abandoned, idled or under-used industrial and commercial facilities where expansion is complicated by real or perceived environmental contamination. We work with communities wishing to develop these properties and investigate problems generally associated with these potential assets and recommend strategies for enhancing community involvement in restoring these properties to new industrial uses.
