The School of Energy at San Juan College offers courses that support careers in occupational safety, oil and gas, power generation, construction, and general workforce industries. Classes are designed for comprehensive industrial training for Lease Operators, Natural Gas Compression, Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), Industrial Process Operator, Renewable Energy, Occupational Safety, and Well Control. Within the service region, a major portion of the economy is fueled by power generation, natural gas and oil production, as well as coal mining and oil and gas service.

SJC requires 15 credit hours to be earned at SJC. Credits for SJC General Education and Core Classes may be earned either online or by conventional classes.

Core Classes (Career Field) requirements are 36 credit hours. Credits for SJC Core Class hours can all be earned at SJC or a student may transfer 18 credit hours for successful completion of any approved TEEX CSHO (225 class hours) certificate.

Effective Fall 2010, San Juan College tuition is $43 a credit hour for in-state (NM) students and $97 a credit hour for out-of-state (NM) students.

HOW DO NEW STUDENTS GET STARTED AT SAN JUAN COLLEGE?

  1. Apply Online: www.sanjuancollege.edu
  2. Apply for Financial Aid.
  3. Complete the Accuplacer placement tests to determine which level of Math, English and Reading classes you will begin with. Transfer students who have already completed college-level Mathematics or English courses are exempt.
  4. Request an Official Transcript from your high school and from any colleges where you have taken classes be sent to the SJC Admissions Office. Your high school transcript MUST include your graduation date. Your Official Transcript must arrive at the SJC Admissions office (mailed or hand delivered) in a SEALED envelope. No Financial Aid funds will be released until all transcripts have been received. Transcripts will be not evaluated until all transcripts have been received. *TEEX students must show successful completion of CSHO certificate from TEEX and a copy of their active OSHA Trainer card (if applicable).
  5. Pay your Tuition. Please check the online academic calendar for tuition dates and deadlines. Tuition can be paid either online, over the phone (505.566.3396), or in person at the SJC Business Office.
  6. Buy your Books. You should purchase your books prior to the first day of class.
