Course Schedules




The Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX) is approved to train veterans and other eligible persons under the provisions of Section 3676(b), Chapter 36, Title 38, United States Code. The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Facility Code is: 1-5-0826-43.

College Degree Credit

The TEEX CSHO Safety Management Certificate Program counts for 18 hours of college credit towards an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Occupational Safety from San Juan College and a Bachelor of Applied Arts & Sciences Degree from Texas A&M University-Commerce. Both degrees may be earned online.

Location

The training is offered on two TEEX campuses: 15515 IH-20 @ Lumley in Mesquite, TX, or 9350 South Presa in San Antonio, TX.

Prerequisites for Admission

No prerequisites.

Books & Training Materials

All books, supplies and fees are included in the course price.

Certificate

Upon completion of the program, each student will be issued a TEEX Certified Safety and Health Official (CSHO) – Safety Management certificate listing the chosen field of study.

How Do I Get Started?

  • Choose a career in safety and health.
  • Submit a VA application for benefits.
  • Contact the VA office for eligibility: 1-888-442-4551.
  • Choose your TEEX safety management career track (Construction Industry or General Industry).
  • Visit the Texas State Approving Agency website: www.tvc.state.tx.us/Education.html.
  • Contact the TEEX VA Certifying Official.
  • Enroll at TEEX and earn your Certified Safety and Health Official (CSHO) – Safety Management Certificate.

TEEX CSHO - Construction Industry Safety Management

All courses must be taken through TEEX, the OSHA Training Institute (Chicago, IL), or the Transportation Safety Institute (Oklahoma City, OK).

Required Courses

    * ALL Medic First Aid trainer cards acceptable as long as they are current.

Hours/CEUs

Provides approximately 283 hours of safety-specific training and 28.3 CEUs.

The TEEX Certified Safety and Health Official (CSHO) – Safety Management Certificate is not a trainer CSHO. For completion of the trainer CSHO, a student must have five years of safety-related experience in either general industry or construction. The trainer course requires renewal every four years to maintain trainer and TEEX CSHO status.

TEEX CSHO - General Industry Safety Management

All courses must be taken through TEEX, the OSHA Training Institute (Chicago, IL), or the Transportation Safety Institute (Oklahoma City, OK).

Required Courses

    * Must be current.

Hours/CEUs

Provides approximately 276 hours of safety-specific training and 27.6 CEUs.

The TEEX Certified Safety and Health Official (CSHO) – Safety Management Certificate is not a trainer CSHO. For completion of the trainer CSHO, a student must have five years of safety-related experience in either general industry or construction. The trainer course requires renewal every four years to maintain trainer and TEEX CSHO status.

Course Schedule

The TEEX Certified Safety & Health Official (CSHO) - Safety Management Certificate Program for VA-eligible Persons is open to ALL students for General Industry and Construction Industry. This program is designed to be completed in as little as eight weeks and all courses can be taken at one location.

This is a non-trainer CSHO. For completion of the trainer CSHO, a student must have five years of safety-related experience in either general industry or construction. The trainer course requires renewal every four years to maintain trainer and TEEX CSHO status.
