International US&R Program

The International US&R Program was designed for international agencies and responders that have specific training requirements. The program is designed to be modular so that our international customers can select the appropriate level of training they require. Each nation has various rescue standards, protocols and professional requirements, requiring TEEX to work closely with the customer when building the courses. Each of our course offerings can be made available to international customers. In addition, TEEX can build custom courses to meet all training requirements of the customer.

These International Search & Rescue course is specially designed for each international agency or jurisdiction. The course is based on the TEEX 80-hour Structural Collapse Technician 2 course with the addition of optional modules selected by customer. Each course is designed by module and includes terminal and enabling objectives for participants to accomplish.

International US&R Courses:


  • International Urban Search & Rescue Course – This 100-hour course is based on the 80-hour Structural Collapse Technician 2 curriculum and provides increased skills station rotations and advanced techniques. The course is designed for personnel who would respond to a structural collapse incident and utilize an extensive cache of US&R equipment, such as one used by a US&R Strike Team or Task Force. The course is designed around heavy equipment and devices that would not typically be found on a standard rescue truck. The course then adds 16 additional hours of training selected by the jurisdiction. Those additional modules are:

    • Search Operations and Mapping – This 4-hour module provides classroom and practical applications of how to use a compass and map during search and rescue operations.

    • Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) Operations – This 4-hour module provides classroom and practical application of how to use global positioning system devices during search and rescue operations.

    • Canine Search – This 2-hour module provides an awareness of the capabilities of search canine teams and how to effectively utilize their unique capabilities.

    • Search Cameras – This 2-hour module provides classroom and practical application of how to use visual inspection devices during search and rescue operations.

    • Listening Devices – This 4-hour module provides classroom and practical application of how to use acoustic listening devices during search and rescue operations.

    • Additional Modules – TEEX US&R can create additional custom modules based on your training needs and requirements.


  • International Structural Collapse Rescue – This 80-hour course is based on the Structural Collapse Technician 2 curriculum. This course is specifically tailored to utilize the local equipment cache, with the length and content of the course adjusted to meet the requirements of the jurisdiction. This course is offered on location and utilizes equipment supplied by the customer. The course is designed for personnel who would respond to a structural collapse incident and utilize an extensive cache of US&R equipment, such as one used by a US&R Strike Team or Task Force.

  • Collapse Rescue Operations – This 50-hour (5 day) course meets NFPA 1670 and NFPA 1006 for structural collapse technician and is designed for personnel who would respond to a structural collapse incident with a Rescue Truck or other Fire Apparatus. The course is designed around the equipment typically found on a Rescue Truck.

  • Advanced Structural Collapse 3 – This 50-hour course is based on the advanced exterior shoring techniques from the US Army Corp of Engineers - Structures Specialist Field Operations Guide (FOG) that is not covered in the 80-hour International US&R course.

  • Advanced Structural Collapse 4 – This 50-hour course is based on the advanced interior shoring techniques from the US Army Corp of Engineers Structures Specialist Field Operations Guide (FOG) that is not covered in the 80-hour International US&R course.

  • Advanced Structural Collapse 5 – This 50-hour course is designed to provide participants with the knowledge, skills and abilities to conduct advanced breaching and breaking techniques while working at a height or in confined spaces. Participants will conduct breaching & breaking, hot cutting of steel and post tensioned beams, mitigate hanging slabs, install anchoring systems, and conduct concrete cutting within confined spaces. This course covers advanced techniques not covered in the 100- or 80-hour International US&R courses.

  • Rescue in a Contaminated Environment – This 24-hour course is designed to provide the structural collapse technician with the opportunity for practical application of US&R techniques in a simulated Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and Explosive (CBRNE) environment. Participants will conduct breaching & breaking, shoring, and lifting and moving operations in Level B suits.

  • Medical Considerations for Rescue Technician – This 8-hour course is designed to provide the structural collapse technician with essential medical information life saving techniques when working with injured patients in a structural collapse environment. This course prepares a structural collapse technician to perform some basic medical assessment, triage, and packaging when a Disaster Medical Specialist is not available.

  • Disaster Medical Specialist – This 50-hour course is designed for personnel who would perform medical functions on a US&R strike team or task force at incident scenes.

  • WMD Considerations for Medical Specialist – This 8-hour course is designed for Medical Specialists that will be responding to a CBRNE incident and treating patients and responders who have been exposed to a contaminated environment. This course can also have an 8 hour, full day CBRNE scenario exercise in Disaster City® added to the curriculum.

  • Disaster Technical Search Specialist – This 40-hour course is designed for personnel who would perform the technical search function on a US&R strike team or task force at incident scenes.

  • Disaster Canine Search Specialist Course– This 50-hour course is designed for personnel who would work with their canine as a search team on a US&R strike team or task force at incident scenes.

    TEEX US&R can provide international urban search and rescue teams with technical assistance with their planning and training programs. Additionally, TEEX US&R can assist with the validation and assessment of current plans and training programs. Courses can be conducted at your jurisdiction or in Disaster City®, located in College Station, Texas. Disaster City is a 52-acre urban search and rescue training facility and delivers the full array of skills and techniques needed by today’s US&R teams and emergency responders.

    TEEX’s US&R training features instructors who have responded to some of the largest disasters on record, including the 9/11 World Trade Center attacks, the space shuttle Columbia incident and Hurricane Katrina.

    TEEX US&R can also provide your response agency with technical assistance in planning and training for emergency response situations, as well as provide validation and assessment of current planning and training programs.

    TEEX is the sponsoring agency for Texas Task Force 1, one of 28 national urban search and rescue teams under FEMA and is Texas’ only Type 1 statewide team under direction of the Texas Division of Emergency Management. Texas Task Force 1 also includes one of the country’s most extensive water rescue programs.
