The Advanced Marine Firefighting course emphasizes hands-on training to provide students with the skills necessary to effectively lead an emergency response team aboard a merchant vessel or offshore facility. Supplementing the hands-on training are a number of classroom presentations utilizing lectures, demonstrations, case histories, class discussions and visual presentations.
Students will be assigned to various positions on emergency response teams and will be asked to respond to different live fire situations as an organized unit. Students, as attack team and scene leaders, will assess the situation, decide on a course of action and implement chosen tactics to successfully control the incident.
Topics covered in the course include:
Any merchant marine or offshore petroleum industry personnel who may be required to perform in a leadership role in response to a fire aboard ship or at their facility
Students will be provided with the knowledge and skills required to conduct a rapid, precise size-up of a fire, to determine the correct course of action (strategy) and to direct an appropriate tactical response with the resources at hand.
The course exceeds IMO, STCW and U.S. Coast Guard advanced firefighting training requirements.
Tuition includes course materials, protective clothing and lunch. Lodging is not included. Tuition must be paid prior to or on the first day of class unless other arrangements have been made.
Students should wear comfortable work clothes. Shorts, opened-toed shoes, and sleeveless shirts are not allowed. Students are required to participate in hands-on activities utilizing self contained breathing apparatus and therefore must be clean shaven while attending class.
