Description

The Crisis Leadership & Decision-Making for Elected Officials seminar uses case studies of major incidents to examine the dynamics of crisis leadership and decision making from a leader’s prospective. The seminar begins with a discussion about the difficulty of making good decisions during a major incident responses and explores ways to overcome such challenges. The political aspects of major incidents are also identified in the session, including inter-organizational conflict, blame, and media relations.

  • Ways that elected officials can be involved in the planning and oversight process
  • Discussions of the methods to address the novelty of every major disaster
  • The evolution of crisis leadership that frequently produces substantial friction between organizations or jurisdictions, even when emergency plans or statues provide for such transition
  • Discussions of the dynamics of leadership transfer
  • Discussions of methods for maintaining situational awareness critical to the favorable resolution of any crisis
