OSH501 - Trainer Course in Occupational Safety & Health Standards for General Industry (OSHA 501) - 31.00 Hours

Description

PLEASE READ THIS FIRST!

  1. Walk-Ins are NOT allowed in this course.

  2. The participant MUST complete ALL prerequisites and be pre-approved by TEEX a minimum of 14 BUSINESS DAYS before the start of the class.

  3. The participant will NOT be registered for the course until prerequisites below are met AND payment has been processed.

IMPORTANT PREREQUISITES:

In order to participate in this course (OSHA 501), the participant MUST verify that they have applied safety and health principles in their job for at least 5 years (or 3 years with a safety & health degree, CSP, or CIH certification).

This verification MUST be achieved by accomplishing the following:

1. Verification by TEEX Customer Care Center of successful completion of TEEX’s OSH511 (Occupational Safety & Health Standards for General Industry course).

OR

2. Mailing a copy of the course completion certificate from a non-TEEX training organization for OSHA 511 (Occupational Safety & Health Standards for General Industry course).

AND

3. Downloading and mailing the completed, signed, and dated OTISEC Registration Form (TO INCLUDE PAYMENT).

AND

4. Downloading and mailing the completed, signed, and dated OSH501 Eligibility Statement.

AND

5. Downloading and mailing the completed, signed, and dated OSHA Outreach Trainer Prerequisite Verification Form.

This VA-approved course (OSHA 501) is designed for personnel in the private sector interested in teaching the 10- and 30-hour general industry safety and health outreach program to their employees and other interested groups. Special emphasis is placed on those topics that are required in the 10- and 30-hour programs as well as on those that are the most hazardous, using OSHA standards as a guide. Course participants are briefed on effective instructional approaches and the effective use of visual aids and handouts. This course covers the skills needed to plan and deliver effective presentations. Participants will learn practical

NOTE: A laptop computer is highly recommended, but not required, for this course.

PARTICIPANT ATTENDANCE POLICY

  1. You are expected to attend 100% of the course in which you are enrolled.
  2. If an extenuating circumstance arises that requires you to attend less than 100% of class, you must complete the Student Absentee Request form (found in the student manual) prior to leaving the classroom and submit it to the instructor for approval. If the extenuating circumstance arises during non-class hours, you must complete the Student Absentee Request form immediately upon return to the classroom and submit it to the instructor for approval.
  3. With an approved absence for extenuating circumstances you may have options for make-up work. See your instructor.
  4. Unexcused absences will require you to make-up time missed by attending the same course offered at another time.

TEST INFORMATION

Effective March 25, 2010, the U.S. Department of Labor, OSHA requires that participants who wish to teach the OSHA 10- and 30-hour construction outreach courses MUST achieve passing scores on the following tests:

  • Knowledge Test:
    • Written, multiple-choice, 50-question test.
    • Passing score: 80% (40 out of 50) or better.
  • Performance Test:
    • 15-30-minute classroom presentation on a safety and health topic.
    • Passing Score: 66.67% (50 out of 75 points) or better.

NOTE: Participants who fail the Knowledge Test and/or the Performance Test will have an opportunity to retake either or both tests.
Participants who fail the retest will receive a letter of attendance, but will NOT receive a trainer card or
