Course Description


EMS135 - Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic - 624.00 Hours

Prerequisites

Clinical/Internship Pre-requisites:
  • Valid American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR or American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer certification
  • Current EMT Basic certification (Texas or NREMT)
  • Proof of immunizations to include:
    • Negative tuberculosis test within 6 months of course start
    • two measles, mumps rubella (MMR) vaccinations (any time in life)
    • Tetanus (within ten years)
    • Hepatitis-B vaccination series (three shots) completion or proof of positive titer
    • Must have proof of the chicken pox (varicella) disease or a positive immunity
  • Current criminal history background check

In order to obtain certification through the Texas Department of State Health Services, you will be required to prove that you are at least 18 years of age and that you have a high school diploma or GED.

Description

Based on U.S. DOT approved curriculum, this course meets or exceeds minimum hours and content established by Department of State Health Services. Students successfully completing didactic and clinical components of this program will be eligible to receive a course completion certificate and the National Registry written and skills exam.

We offer two Fast Track Paramedic formats. The 10 week format meets from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on Monday, Wednesday, and Fridays for 10 consecutive weeks. The 15 week format meets from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on Tuesday and Thursdays for 15 consecutive weeks. The total hours for each class are 624 hours and are divided into 240 didactic/lecture, 192 hospital clinical, and 192 ambulance internship. The hospital and ambulance rotations are completed after the classroom portion of the class. The student will have up to six (6) months after the last day of class to complete all didactic, hospital clinical, and ambulance internship requirements.

Students will be required to provide the student textbook and associated workbook. Currently, the class is using the Jones & Bartlett / AAOS Nancy Caroline’s Emergency Care in the Streets – 6th Edition. Students will be provided with a clinical uniform shirt for clinical/internship rotations during the class.

  • • NOTE: TEEX ESTI EMS Program has implemented a registration deadline. All registrants AND PAYMENTS must be received no later than 15 business days prior to the start of class. Contact our office at (979) 458-2998 for more details.
  • • Class Uniforms: All EMS students attending a TEEX EMS Program course will be required to obtain and wear the program uniform. Uniforms will consist of program t-shirt, nave blue or black pants (EMS pants, dickies, BDU’s), and black rubber soled shoes or boots that can be polished (no tennis shoes). Please contact our office at (979) 458-2998 for shirt vendor information.
  • Clinical Uniforms: Clinical shirts and ID’s will be provided to students and are included in the course fees. Classroom pants and footwear listed above are to be used in the clinical/internship settings as well.
